Hi, I’m Michelle

Growing up as a farmer’s daughter I’ve always been exposed to the influence of Mother Nature. I see her influence to be very impactful on ourselves. With this passion and connection of nature I have developed and intimate knowledge how it works. Embracing the seasons, to track animals, foraging herbs and mushrooms, creating incredible nutrient dense meals to last during off-harvest season plus building an apothecary of medicinal tinctures and unique herbal wild blends is my passion.

Recently my passion for the wilderness has burst through, and I couldn’t contain it anymore. That’s when I started The Wild Daughter, where the focus is on Nature. This is where my farmer self meets my wild self.

I’m also the owner of Farmer’s Daughter, a gourmet market in Huntsville, Ontario that has a bakery, prepared meals and fresh produce. We put our emphasis on supporting local businesses and fresh, quality foods. Our meals are filled with healthy flavour and are made from scratch from local farms or our own farm.

Being around food and produce, I’ve always been skilled at using wild plants to replace conventional foods and seasonings. Then realizing I could connect with plants on a spiritual level, it really became my passion, and others started to notice. I started to teach friends and family how to slow down and observe their surroundings, slowly it became a regular thing!

I love sharing my knowledge and love of nature through guided walks for adults and kids, teaching them about edible foods, mushrooms, and animal behaviours in Mattawa and Muskoka. I teach them the clues that nature shows us, how to forage, clean, cook, and preserve wild foods, often experimenting with ways to use these foods in everyday life, selling limited Wild Daughter products at the store.

As a free-spirited traveler, I spend every free moment hiking, kayaking, and sleeping in our Roof Top Tent (which we sell!). I study the flora and fauna in different locations, learning what's available at different times of the year.

I'm passionate about sharing my love of nature with others and showing them what it can teach us.

When connecting with nature we gain an increased awareness of ourselves
